Professional meetings about canopy-related topics are an important component in understanding the forest canopy. Only in the last decade have there been canopy-specific meetings. These have been of great importance in the exchange of information as well as the forging of collaborative relationships among canopy researchers.
Canopy topics are also the focus of smaller symposia and workshops at other major (non-canopy) meetings. These also serve an important purpose, to disseminate information about forest canopy studies to researchers in allied and non-allied fields.
ICAN helps to promote these meetings by organizing its own symposia, disseminating information prior to meetings via the newsletter and e-mail bulletin board, and circulating information after meetings through the newsletter, e-mail bulletin board, and special reports.
