Conservation of tree canopy organisms and forest ecosystems is central to the mission of ICAN. The Board takes a broad view of forest conservation; our vision is that good conservation comprises sound research, excellent education, well-informed outreach, and thoughtful activism.
Certain “traditional” aspects of forest conservation – land acquisition, hands-on activism, legislative lobbying – have, to date, been beyond the scope of ICAN’s conservation activities. Rather, we have focused on helping to disseminate scientifically sound information to those who are doing traditional conservation work, and to raise awareness of the importance of forest conservation.
